ok, heres the deal. i have a 1999 2wd ranger, 4cyl 5spd.
i went offroading with my brother and i want to lift my ranger to go offroading now.
is this a good idea or is this asking to get stuck.
you have a 2wd that gets good gas mileage with the way the economy is headed if you lift it now youre going to regret it when it costs you $100 to fill up and it only lasts 3 days
if you have the money buy and old truck thats already 4wd use that for your mudding...not only will an old truck be able to fit bigger tires stock but then you dont have to worry about breaking your ranger and you will always have transportation no matter what breaks right
If you're just going to offroad it (not DD) and can not afford another truck with 4wd, just about the only thing you can do to help prevent stucks is to weld up the rear carrier, or spend a little money for a positive traction carrier of some kind. you could also haul a few hundred pounds of gravel and a shovel in the bed for a little better traction. If you get stuck you may be able to shovel some rock under the tires to help a little. If that doesn't help you can use the shovel to dig your truck a grave.
