I have a 1976 F150 with a 460, and a edelbrock carb. Last week it quit on me and took a bit to get started back up. I limped it home and now it won't start at all. It kicks over and is getting spark and if I pour a little gas straight into the carb. it fires right up.
So I went ahead and replaced the fuel pump thinking it was bad, but it still won't start and is not getting any fuel to the carb. I also replaced the fuel filter so I know that's not clogged.
I do know it turns over no matter what gear I have it in, but I thought if the safety/nuetral switch was bad it wouldn't crank at all. Any thoughts or ideas would be appreciated.
what you need to check out is weather or not you are getting fuel through the pump... there is a pick up line in your gas tank that could be clogged one thing to try is pull your fuel line off before the pump and put shop air to the line and see if any air comes out your fill cap... then give that a try... if it is still a hard start after that you need to check and replace all your rubber fuel lines for they might have a pin ***** hole in them that is letting all the fuel drain back to the tank when it sits...
I should have added that It has dual tanks, and it's not firing up on either. I even tried switching the fuel lines thinking I made that mistake. But nothing.
check to see if anything is in the line from the fuelpump to the filter if your getting fuel out of the pump but not to the carb you might have a clogged line or a pressure regulator in the line not sure if a regulator was used on the 76 or not
Like garlindethfury said you need to confirm the fuel pump is pumping fuel, your cam lobe may be worn flat, if that checks out ok then the problem is most likely with your carb.
