Hard Start
i recently dropped a new engine in my 85 f150 and ive tweekin and tunin pretty much every chance i get. my problem is, when i turn the key it acts like the starter is having trouble cranking the engine like it has a rediculously high compression ratio. i installed a DUI dizzy through a toggle switch, and with the switch off there is no issue with cranking over. im wondering is this a timing issue? also when trying to use a timing light my marks dont line up at all. is this common?
oh yeah, its a 300 with comp 260h cam, offy dp, hedder, truck avenger 470.

yup, you will get that when running too much advance, my 302 LOVED 14* advance and a gap of .060 on the plugs (high energy spark of course) but it wouldnt turn over worth crap. the compustion is literally stopping the piston from traveling up and the starter is over powering it. re-locate your distrubutor (couple teeth) or bump the timing down a little

still havent had a chance to mess with it at all, blew a u joint, fixed that, had to leave for a week, and now im chargin up my battery (got a short somewhere)...never seems to stop raining when i wanna work on something around here
