So I have had my x for a few months now gas mileage is holding steady at 13.5-14.5 driving to work from 5200 ft to 7000 ft and 30 miles and then doing it to come home. MY freind and I were discussing as ususal what things we could do to it. So keeping in mind limited budget. (hvae to buy brakes and pads next month) What tire size can we go to with out having to lift the truck. I want to my wife and freinds say leave it alone. I don't think 4 inches is that big of a deal apparently for my wife who is 5'4" it is. What air filter replacemnt, and I have heard good arguments on both side fo the fence, should I get probally be my first then exhaust. The stock is way to quiet for me, so say headers first, then cat back keeping it simple. then I'am not loking to drag race my x and I understand its a beast and not going to gte great mileage, but is there a programmer that would help even it out espically in the mountains where the air is thin. Thanks for any suggestions and yes some pictures are coming I'am going to get it up as high as I can with out getting a ticket and put them on the site.

You are getting GREAT mileage for a V10 considering your alltitude. (As long as that number is hand calculated mileage and not the number from the lie-o-meter.)

Nothing you do will increase your gas mileage enuf to justify the price.

I would spend money on all upkeep items:

plugs (and new coil boots)
tranny service
rear diff service
front diff service (4x4 only)
transfer case service (4x4 only)
brakes/rotors
brake fluid flush
coolant flush
power steering fluid flush
correct tire pressure (that's a big one for mpg)
fuel filter

Now if you just want to make your Ex sound a little better, look better, and/or have a little more power, you could do:
cat back
v/b springs from F250 (~2" of lift)
headers
tuner
intake

285/75/16 will fit on stock suspension

Personally, if you want performance I would do gears and a custom tune with the custom tune being first.

I would also replace the T-pipe with an actual Y-pipe.

Different mufflers just make noise. If you're gonna do the exhaust (cat-back) increase the tailpipe to 3.5".

Headers are cool but increase the noise factor.

i can't say for the Excursions (i'm new to the style, not new to the 10er)......... but here's some exhaust clips i've compiled! they should give you a good idea of what sound you'll be listening to!

Sound & Video Clips

i don't plan on much to mine, i've already trimmed the air intake snooter back some, and have been scanning ebay for a FM 50 series probably. i'm not going with a 40 series like on my F250, i want the rumble, but not as much as the 40 series produces.

as for tunning contact fordmdb with 5star tunning he's a FTE sponsor. i've been talking back and forth about types of tunes, and tunners for both my Ex, and my F250. he's got alot of good info!
