I have a 2000 Ranger, shortbed, and the original exhaust is starting to go. The union where the cat and first piece of pipe rearward is corroded and noisy. I don't want to go to a muffler shop that uses pipes that within a year or two they're all rusted out and needs replacing again..again and again about every 2 years. Searching around I see Magnaflow has a stainless steel cat back system. Has anyone had any experience with it? I don't want to get into the cycle of having the exhaust changed every 2 years because cheap, rusting, pipes are used. Any info appreciated.
While Magnaflow does use stainless, I would not want one of their mufflers. I used on on my Mazda, and it sounded good when it was new, now it drones and resonates, and just thinking about driving it gives me a headache. Their pipes will last just fine, and if you are lucky the muffler will. But you can get better mufflers that will be quieter longer.
I live where road salt is used, and I have found that a high quality heavy gauge tubing lasts just fine. Most shops use cheaper 16 gauge tubing, but if they use 14 gauge, it will last between 5 - 7 years, which is good enough for most applications. Or you can ask the shop if they can order in some stainless pipe.
Gibson kits seem to be highly rated by forum members. The only problem with buying the kits is that they include the muffler and exhaust tip, and they may not always be the ones you like.
