The axle code on the door jam of the 95 7.3 says C5.
We jacked up the back of the truck and spun the tires and we're pretty sure it's got 4:10s.
Does having the axle code tell anything different? I pulled the little metal tag off the axle. I can take pictures of it tomorrow if that'd help.
I need to know because the current axle will not accept dual rears without the inside dual hitting against the leaf springs so we want to swap out to a rear end built for duals.
If the DRW axle you are swapping in has different gear, just swap the gears and the limited slip.....
Thanks. We don't have an axle to go in yet. We're shopping for one and we'd really prefer to get one we won't have to mess with in order to get it to work. We thought it was 4.10 limited slip since both wheels spun when it was jacked up, but we wanted to be sure.
Make sure the axle you get is from a pickup and not a cab/chassis. On a cab/chassis the frame and axle is narrower and will not fit a pickup frame.
Alright. Thanks for the tip on that!
I'm assuming that the truck was originally built as a pickup because it has the 3rd brake light mounted on the cab and it has a spare tire holder.
The story on the truck is this:
We got the truck a few weeks ago for 3300 bucks. Previous owner was more than a little clueless about trucks. The lug nuts on one wheel were loose and the holes on the rim were all elongated and the studs are worn down because the rim was slapping around against the studs.
When we bought it there was a utility body and ladder rack on it. We took those off this afternoon and made an attempt at fitting the dual wheels we had on it. No luck. Everything rubbed. We thought about using a ton of spacers, but decided it would be safer to replace the axle since the truck is going to get a flatbed body and will be used for doing gooseneck work and plowing.
