I just (mostly) finished installing a 9" axle in place of the original Dana 44 in my '55. The truck had previously been converted to a 390 and automatic transmission out of (from what I can tell) around a '64 Ford. Everything worked and drove fine as it was but I wanted some better gearing for highway use.
I got a rear axle from a 1966 F100. I've got it all bolted in and installed but I think the driveshaft might be a bit too short. I wish I'd taken a picture of the shaft coming out of the transmission before so I would would have had something to compare it to. As it sits it looks like the slip yoke might be sticking out of the transmission further than it used to.
Can anyone tell me if when they've done rear end conversion if the previous driveshaft worked or had to be modified?
