I decided to move my MAP sensor line to the "hot side" of the spider for a little quicker response time. While I have it off to tap for the fitting, I am doing a little clean up of the casting inside as well. BEFORE AFTER
I still have some "finer" polishing to do. I just took a break for lunch and let the air compressor cool down. I have more pics in my gallery and will post more when all is done.
I am also undecided as to where I'm gonna tap the hole. I was thinking of directly on top. I have a 90* fitting. Or should I go further out near the IC hose connection?
What are you using, abrasive wise, to clean up that rough interior?
When I got a spider from Kris last year for my turbo upgrade it was tapped for MAP and boost like you are thinking of doing, but I put them in the stock spots. Let us know if you see an apreciable difference. I still have the fittings and the switch would be easy.
Inside is all done. I removed the wastegate solenoid and stock MAP sensor port tubes and drilled & tapped them to 1/8" NPT. I installed pipe plugs in the holes for a "cleaner" look. I can always put fittings back in these locations, if need be. I still need to decide on the MAP fitting location. I saw that Kris had his in the front of the "hot'' side. I was wondering if the top near the compressor outlet would work OK. It is pretty thick there and I would drill a small hole all the way thru. Then, I would drill a larger hole for the tap just deep enough for the fitting threads. Any suggestions?

I did mine there and yes it is WAY thicker. I love it compared to the stock location or further out like Kris did. This way they are both out of the way and it cleans up the front of the spider! The MAP line is at the angle and the boost gauge goes straight up into the wire loom holder. Then just drilled and tapped the old MAP port. I should do the same for the wastegate because when pushing 30+ psi boost, the vacuum plug will pop off.
***Edit - Did you use a different plug than I did? If yours is cleaner, then I'll change mine out!***

I used 1/8'' pipe plugs with the allen socket head and "set" them almost flush to the surface. I will post pics later.

I used carbide burrs and a die grinder, then switched to sanding rolls from a porting kit I had laying around. I finished off the surfaces, I could get to, with a flapper wheel.

My boost line will still be on the "cold" side. I have the line attached to a fitting in AIH delete plug. I will use the AE to compare readings from the gauge and MAP sensor, before the regulator limits the PCM's boost reading.
I may have to do the road test tomorrow. Mary and I are going out for dinner when she gets home from work.

I would say that there probably won't be any difference in the boost the sensor is seeing, it's just getting it faster. Guys that run boost gauges before and after the intercooler say that they've seen a 2-5 psi drop from one side to the other. With the MAP line in the normal spot, it would just take longer to build the boost on that side of the i/c compared to right out of the turbo where it's immediate.
OK, I was thinking that with the fitting closer to the cylinders, it would pull the psi down a little. With the fitting on the exit of the turbo the boost would be trying to hold more psi because it is trying to push air through the IC. Just a think I had.
