Hi I have two trucks one 77 f100 2wd and 75 f100 4wd. The 75 has 16.5 rims on it and the 77 15's. I am geting rid of the the 77 can't have two trucks. My question is should I take the 15's and put then on the 75 or keep the 16.5's. I have allways had 15's and don't know anything about the 16.5's is it a good size or will it be hard to get tires.
Most places that mount tires won't touch a 16.5 rim, so unless you want hummer tires, stay the heck away from 16.5s!!
From my personal experience 16.5's are just fine, they get a bad rap because some neanderthals try to mount a 16" tire on a 16"5 rim, but they've always held a bead for me, granted if you're going to air down to 10 psi they may break loose but most tires will w/o a beadlock.
Well, from what I have heard, the lock rim can pop off while mounting a tire an cause damage, or injury, even death!! While, true they are fine after they are mounted, I still would never own any, when I bought my 76 f250 all the 16.5 split rims had been replaced by 16s, but had a spare tire that was a 16.5, I got rid of that one quickly!!

The old split rims are a whole other animal all together, on that i agree, they can kill a guy, but the 16.5's aren't unsafe they're just being phased out over time.
Yeah, they are another animal thats for sure!! My understanding though was he has the split rims, I did see that it was from n f100, but I have never heard of 16.5s for a f-100 ethier, I just assumed they were probably split rims because he never stated if the 16.5 rims on the one truck were orginal to it. If they are aftermarket 16.5s then thats different. Did they ever make a 16.5 split for a f100?? If they did, its a new one on me, but these trucks have been around alot longer than me!!
