I have a 96 F150, I just changed the steering box. Now the Air bag light stays flashing. I did not touch anything under the dash when I did the steering box.
Where do I look to correct the problem? Will it harm anything if I leave it alone and keep driving the truck? any help is greatly appreciated!
The blinking flashes a sequence of numbers. It will flash a few times, pause and then flash some more. It will then take a longer pause a repeat the code again. The most common is 3-2. But not likely something that is caused by changing steering box...but is in the steering wheel.
Check to see what code it is flashing. Post that and you'll get the help you need.
3-2 is the clockspring in the steering wheel. It is a simple enough procedure if you are relatively handy.
This is a link to the tech section at the top of our forum. Halfway down the page, you will find a couple of links related to the 3-2 code and one with some good pics on changing.
Just always remember to disconnect your battery well ahead of working around the airbag. I cannot remember exactly what the time is, but I suspect 30 minutes should be good. I would however check beforehand if I were you. It may indeed be indicated in one of the two links.
