Welcome to FTE. How many miles do you have on the tranny? Has it ever been rebuilt? When was the last time you changed the fluid in it? Did the fluid look funny or smell burnt?

I'm thinking you're thinking what I'm thinking....mechanical diode, yes?
To the OP, the way your tranny is acting resembles some of the same symptoms some have experienced when the mechanical diode in the '01 4R100's bites the bullet.
Some have had their trucks just quit, while others have had shifting problems similar to yours.
