1989 F-350 voltmeter

Hello to all,

I wonder, it might be a silly question, bust does somebody here know where Ford takes the connection (where they get the 12V signal) for the original in dash voltmeter? 1989 F-350 4x4 7.3L IDI diesel.

Or eventually, what is the methode for checking the gage?

any help will be appriciated!, Bart

If I remember correctly it's tapped off the supply that goes to the instrument cluster to power the other guages.

Hello Dave,

Today i opened up the instrument cluster, and i noticed after i removed the transparant screen, the little (sub)clusters which are clamped at the instrument cluster chassis.
So i lifted the subcluster with the Volt and Temp. meter out, and took it in my shop.
I checked the functionallity with a preselected current feed, and the meter is fully functional.

Though the thing i discovered, was that the black plastic layer at which the scales are printed was sagged a littlebit, so that the little black cap which rested at the pointer, blocked the movement of the pointer beyound the 9 Volt mark.

After i discovered this, i dicided to cut a little more of that plastic layer, so that the pointer again is able to move freely.
After that, i remounted the instrument cluster, and everything works fine again.

Thanks!

Bart
