just wondering if any of y'all have ever had your cats go bad offraoding or not. the other day it rained alot down here and i had to go through deep water to get home. well friends house. (middle of country and flooded rice fields at the moment) well water was about half way up my tires and the next day my cats were no good. brought it to ford and they said both cats were bad and replaced under the 80,000/8yr emmisions warranty (supposedly) but i was wondering why they went out....
my '05 ranger never had any problems and it's seen some mud and water that would make most people sick (including me) and never had a lick of problems
by the way my f-150 is a '06 with leveling kit and 305 tires
The only thing that comes to mind is that they got cooled too fast and the media inside fractured into a pile of pieces, but it seems like that should be hard to do from external cooling.
If the water went into the cats, it's easy to see how the media would break apart, but I'm not so sure about water on the outside of the cat.
