King Pins, how to do them?

King Pins, how to do them?

Last night when I got home I noticed my camber appeared to be negative on my passenger side front tire. Since I have king pins the camber is obviously not adjustable. I'm going to check and see if its loose after school today. I was just wondering how to go about doing them and how hard it is?

First jack up the truck and place it on a jackstand and see if the wheel will move either side to side or left and right. This will tell you what needs replaced. I will tell you those king pins can be a bogger sometimes. It really depends on if they are the factory ones and have been in there for 28 years, if they have been replaced recently then its not too bad. Test it out and post back with the results.

If your king pins turn out to be ok, then I would check the bushings and springs in the front. Ride height is very important on a twin-I-beam suspension, and if it sags a little bit, it can make the wheel tip in at the top. Also if that wheel was parked on ground that was a little higher, it can look like something is off.

If the king pins are worn, you can take them out and replace them, but you will have to get a machine shop to ream the bushings to size to fit the new pins. They have to be perfect.

thanks alot, I replaced the front springs a few months ago so i doubt its that, and the truck sits level across the front. I ended up working late but I'm going to do it tomorrow morning before school or later tonight. I should be able to get a decent deal on the machine shop and the kits only 92 dollars. I'm just worried to replace it will be an absolute bear. I'll let you know whats happens when I check them.
