OT BMW brake question
She lives out of state, so I'm not able to interact, but she said some 'fluid' light had come on... that's why she went to the dealer in the first place.
Now, I don't know much about high end BMW's, and I'm sure they have all sorts of sensors and stuff.... but to flush the brake fluid? Is this just a high end rip off or something about BMW brakes I'm missing?
I would expect more from a BMW dealership, so I'm hesitant to tell her she is being ripped off until I asked you guys........
Thanks in advance...
Sad, scripture tells us to take care of widows, and here she is getting ripped off....???
I would do a little internet searching for "brake fluid flush" or BMW ripoffs.
This is the first I've heard of the brake flush - I've seen and done the radiator flush - I've heard of the tranny flush - Kind of a "Pull" and shoot.
BMW's are hard on brakes..the pads are hard and the rotors are soft..so you know the routine..the pads wear..the fluid is ' displaced '..the swx in the cap turns the lite in the dash on,..now she needs a ' complete ' brake job.
BG products (along with every other local start-em-up Company) offers a pressure brake system flush..theory is,..since brake fluid is hydroscopic..it will collect moisture and crud will build upshortening the life of brake calipers, seals,ABS components and the like..flushing that stuff out is a good idea every once in awhile.
Most places will recommend it every couple of yearsPressurized systems will substitute an adapter in place of the cap, and push new fluid thru the master cylinder and out the caliper bleeders.
With the economy as slow as it is nowdays..sometimes 'any' work is work,..and always beats a 'zero'...at least in the flat-rate world.
just my .02$
