Dodge makes some very nice vehicles...and while you are under warranty, it's all good.
But the second you get out of Warranty, stand by.
I have a 2005 Durango with the 325 HP 5.7 Hemi. AWD Limited. The thing weighs 5,500 lbs and it will light up all 4 tires...faster than hell, and the Hemi is just a fun beast.
And that is about it for the good stuff.
I've owned it 1 yr.
So far had 3 recalls, replaced a PCM, replaced a bunch of sensors on the intake and heads. First 2 months I owned it, it was in the shop for 3 weeks.
Currently, it has a pinion seal weaping on the rear axle...waiting for something else to go wrong before I even start to pay for that one.
I mistakenly bought a Dodge because of the "good price". I will never buy another Dodge unless it is the SRT-8 Challenger...brand new only though.
You get what you pay for. Dodge's are nice to look at, and fun to drive light to light...but the quality just isn't there. And they get damn expensive really quickly after the first 3 yrs of age.
On the other hand...I've owned at least 10 Fords of my own, and my family has always had a couple in the driveway at any given time.
I absolutely loved my 2006 F-150 FX4...I supercharged it and it was a pure beast. I beat the snot out of it, and it just kept asking for more abuse. Best truck I've ever owned.
My 2008 Expy that replaced the F-150 is just as wicked. For a 6,500 lb vehicle, it will get up and scoot.
I guess I'll chime in here on this. In between my 91 Ford Explorer and my present truck, I had a 2001 Dodge Dakota quad cab 4.7. It had around 60K on it when I traded it in. Never had to add oil between changes. Never had anything go wrong with it except for a couple of factory re-calls. It rode very nice. The only problem with it was it's breaks sucked! It didn't want to stop in a hurry. I had to learn to use a lot of space cushion.
I had to upgrade to a bigger truck to tow a R.V. To be honest I chose Ford over Dodge because at the time there was a Ford dealership right in town and the Dodge dealership was 35 or 40 miles away. I'm very happy with my Ford, but the local dealership closed so I'm in the same boat anyway.

Hey Tylus, in the second picture of your "I had to get rid of it" thread, it looks like your right tailpipe tip is pointing down. did you break a hanger bracket?
i would drve a chevy before I drive a dodge, and I hate chevies
Took the words right outta my mouth LOL!
I have always been a Ford guy. My dad has always been a Ford guy too. There were a few Chevys in there, but we never kept them for more than 2-3 years.
Dodges, on the other hand, have NEVER been in the family. My wife, who is a diehard Chevy fan, also dispises Dodges. She's slowly becoming a Ford fan (no choice; all of our vehicles are Fords LOL)

not exactly. I backed into a railroad tie last week and the right tip hit it
was gonna fix it, but obviously never got around to it. I just needed to loosen the bolts on that side and slide everything back into place
How can you hate something you have absolutely NO experience with?
Easy there, rifleman...them's fightin' words around here!
For what it's worth, i completely agree...there's quite a lot of baseless bashing that goes around here...but I'd say that it's common on any message board...
I know people who've had both good and bad luck with almost every manufacturer out there....all of 'em make capable vehicles IMHO.

.
I agree and apologize if I sound aggressive. The statement I quoted earlier just seemed like a lamebrained answer seeing as how the posters family "despises" Dodges but in the same sentence says theres never been one in his family. It doesn't make sense. I can almost say that I'm probably one of the most tolerant people around when it comes to what someone choses to drive. Like many here I grew up in a Ford family but as time went on more GMs and Chryslers trickled in and nobody's had hard luck with any of them... probably cause we take care of all of them. People who feel its necessary to comment on vehicles they've only taken a passing glance at are probably basing their opinions on other peoples vehicles that have been beaten to livin' .... And for the others that say they have firsthand expirence with GMs or Dodges failures, rest assured, you could find just as many Fords that have problems if you looked.
I'm sorry, it seems you misunderstood what I was trying to say, I should have been more clear.
I agree with you 100% in what you are saying. I was trying to poke some tongue-in-cheek humor at those who choose to bash everything other than what they own. There are many people here who believe, for example, that Ford makes the only "real" truck, and that all else is worthless scrap. These are the same folks who will argue with you endlessly with arguments that may or may not be valid, but will completely ignore any valid argument you can bring.
For example, I prefer Ford trucks over other makes...however I know lots of people who have gotten great service out of Chevy, Dodge, and even(gasp!) toyotas! I believe they all make a good product, for the most part...but to say so, like you and I just did, often stirs up a hornet's nest...that's all!
For the life of me I can't figure out how trucks in particular stir up more brand loyalty than any other consumer product I've seen, a distant second would be farmers and their tractors (BTW: if it ain't red, leave it in the shed ). After all, you dont see a hunter at the sight in range with a Remington bashin the guy shootin a Winchester or Browning. Even in myself I still can't figure out how we've all been bred to hate one brand of truck or another.
I think part of it is the fact that each of the big 3 have made some really great vehicles, as well as some steaming piles of crap. When someone gets burned by one, they often associate anything made by that brand as nothing but garbage...
Also, I think there are plenty of folks who listen to nothing but marketing hype and believe whatever doesn't have the most power is junk, even though it doesn't take 400 HP to tow a trailer, go off-road, or any other truck-ish stuff.
Then there are those who believe that anything that was made by a domestic company is junk because of past reliability problems of many domestic models. Was true at one point, but I think within the past few years everyone makes a competitive product.
And, added to all of the above, there's the strong desire to justify a purchase by making yourself believe you spent your money on the best vehicle.
Out of all of that, I don't have a problem with someone calling their truck a great truck. A great truck is a lot of different things to a lot of different people. However, I do have a few issues with those who insist that what's parked in their driveway is the ONLY truck, and everything else is garbage...just doesn't make sense to me!
I traded my 145,000 mile 01 Supercrew with a 4.6 in 04 for a Ram Quad with Hemi. Had to have a new seat in less then 5,000 mi. New one was a lot better. Drove it close to 90,000 with just reg maintenance. Killed a camarro and deer in same week so traded for an 06 Quad/ Hemi. Was almost twice the truck to me. Miliage was fantastic with the cylinder cut out the have. Towed my toon without effort. In most cases it was a great ride.
However
I am not a little guy along with having a bum leg and hip thanks to little VC in nam. The seats were ok but the way they attach to frame sucks. The way I have to slide in they kept coming loose. Also ride quality I thought was good (until I drove my 08 Lariat). The 06 hemi got better mileage than this 5.4 but I could care less. This Lariat is SO DAMN comfortable I am ashamed I ever left Ford.
Also I was on my 2nd wiper motor in 38,000 miles, Tranny fluid was going some where with no leaks, I was on my 3rd set of rotors as everytime it rained the new ones warped and I grew used to my pedal bouncing when braking.
I bought both Dodges for the great pricing they had. I am not saying I will never buy a Dodge product but not likely a truck.
I love GM trucks but being disabled I can't drive them. The have a little hump next to brake that pushed my foot under pedal.
So though the Dodge is a good ride and also a good looking one It aint no Ford F150
