Having rented Cobalts, the comparable GM offering is also a good car for the money. Dodge Caliber is another reason Chrysler just needs to go away.

When I bought my Focus (2004) it came down to only two cars, the Focus and the Mazda 3. The Corolla was out because it was too expensive to justify the car as compared to the Focus. The Civic was out because after my 1980 Civic I vowed never to own another Civic or Honda. GM was out for obvious reasons as were European cars. The Focus and Mazda were both very quick and nimble cars on the road which I love. Mazda has done well by me with a previous Mazda yet it boiled down to a $3000 difference between the two. The Focus is the first Ford owned since the early 70's and it is a great and trouble free car for me and gets me 32-33 mpg in the 2.3L engine with 5 spd. Oh, it has cruise control which I use every day...
