Considering you can buy three DB starters for the price of one Denso......................... I'd have to think long and hard on that one.
I don't completely disagree with the thought, but if the DB Chinese starter can give out wherever, then it shifts the weight over to the more expensive Denso a bit. In addition, I don't want to R&R the starter three times or have it conk out while I am on a roadtrip or towing. One long rescue tow may make it worth buying the genuine Denso. Even more so if it will last as long as I own my truck.
I just wish there was a source to compare Foster's price to.
There was a discussion over in the other forum about Better Starters. I finished carried on a conversation there and posted my further experiences. I have a couple of pics in my album of the DB Electrical Chinese knock-off and the true Denso starters. I have also posted two Youtoob videos of the Mitsu and genuine Denso starts.
DS,
That's how my original '97 starter sounded this fall. I can't beleive your DB failed so soon.
If I was you I'd have them send me a new starter, then make them pay to ship the old one back, and sell the new one. You can drop price a little and counter the 20% restocking fee. Screw them, make them send you a new one. Surely they won't make you pay to ship the new one to you?
If that National site has Nippondenso high torque 4kw starters for $149, I'd go that route over the DB any day.
Though I can say I'll be taking my old one to a local shop just to see what they can do for it.
Less than 2 years after installing a "New" Napa starter it is slowing down like the original. The original starter lasted 190,000 miles. The Napa starter lasted 30,000 miles. This time I noticed the symptoms ahead of time so I can order what I want instead of having to purchase a "New" Napa starter. After reading around various posts on this topic I am going to replace it this time with a NEW Motorcraft SA903 starter used on Super Duty models after 2001. Other folks have been having luck with this starter - hopefully it will last. I need all the cold cranking rpms I can get in my climate.
Lifetime warranty means that it has to not function on their test bench. When a parts store tests the starter they can not tell that it is slowing down and losing power. It spins fine on a test bench but it won't push a 20* high compression diesel motor. As usual lifetime warranty means nothing and they lose my business.
If you have a load tester you may want to check those batteries first.I had the same problem starting my truck, I got a set of batteries from autozone that gave out in little under a year, registered 12-13 volts sitting there but had no cranking power. took starter out and went to parts store and bench tested fine, they tested batteries and said they were junk, luckily under warranty and they had to replace them. worth doing a quick check!
There's a good chance the Motorcraft is made in Mexico.
There are a lot of OEM parts made in Mexico.
Personally, I have no issue with Mexico parts, but I have a big problem with made in China.
