Decision Time
I have checked all items underneath and not washed or detailed but extrremely dry, no trans, transfer or axle leaks. Fluids appear used but clean and at correct levels in, trans, transfer and both diffs.
It is recognized that the manual front axle lock outs will be replaced as neither moves. I have a choice of the aftermarket item or the shop will pay for this level of part and I can upgrade at my cost to higher quality, from past experience I was thinking of Warn, thoughts and suggestions.
The trans is the 4r100 series and when at either cold or warm idle moving selector, with brakes on, from Park first into reverse and then to N and then to Drive it is noticed that the tach drops about 200-250 rpm with the engagement of R, then back up to normal idle speed in N, and then same drop of rpms as I engage D. On the road it shifts smoothly with no lag or slushy/slippy feeling. On coast down it has no erratic behavior, and with movement of the OD switch you see both an rpm change and on coast down a further engine breaking effect. On rapid starts no slip, and full throttle shifts while not racer firm are solid with no mickey mouse.
The passenger side exhuast bolts have been just replaced after my first look at the truck, no sign of leakage or noise on the drivers side.
Any thoughts or suggestions are welcomed as I will probably make my decision within the next 48 hours.
This is a very clean truck and I have the Carfax history with all clean notations and the history track is 2 owners with a dealer in between.
Thanking you in advance for your thoughts, Fx.
I think the only real issue is the trans, it is not as beefy as the current one in production but overall I have not heard any real big issues with it.
So that is my thoughts I am sure others will chime in soon.
BTW- pics are mandatory if you purchase!
