The COLOR code is located on the second line of the Warranty Plate.
If a single color, there will be 1 letter or number. Tu-toned: 2 letters and/or numbers or a combination of each.
This plate is located on the left door face .. below the latch and also has the VIN on it.
CAVEAT EMPTOR!
Compare the VIN on the Warranty Plate with the VIN on the registration to see if they match.
People replaced left doors due to damage with used doors. 99% of the time...they did not install the original Warranty Plate on the replaced door.

Your grandpa bought it new? That makes me feel kinda old, because...
I bought a 1965 F100, 1968 F250, 1971 F100 and 1979 F150
new.
And...a 1988 F150, 1992 F150 and 2004 F150 new.
