HPD60 or a D60?

I got a set of axles for a project that came off a 1979 F250 (supposed to have)
The rear is a 60 (stamped in the web) but how do I tell if it's a HP or a regular D60? Been looing around and cant find a good way for a visual way to tell.

Thanks.

as far as i have ever known, dana 60 high pinion only referres to a front dana 60 diff.there is a low pinion and and a high pinion dana 60 front diff. i have not heard of a hich pinion rear dana 60 diff. you can tell the difference on a low or high pinion front diff by the pinions location on the diff.the low pinion enters the diff below the center point of the ring gear. the pinion contact area on a low pinion diff is lower than the center of the ring gear.(if that makes sense to you.) the high pinion diff is different, the pinion cotact area on this diff is on the top side area of the ring gear, above the center of the ring gear. that being said, when you look at the diff and see where the pinion is entering the carrier(or pumpkin) on the high pinion diff the pinion sits on the high side of the pumpkin, where as the low pinion will enter the pumpkin on the lower side. hope this makes sense to you.

Yea I understand the axle centerline to pinion refferance. Just wondering as the axle sits on the ground with all the tabs and brackets stripped off if there was an easy way of telling. Since it was a 79' 3/4ton and not a snow chaser I would bet it's a normal d60.

Thanks.

if the truck is a 3/4 ton it should have a d 60 rear,(and a d 44 front if its a 4x4)
