I've bought a long block 390 to put in my 76 F-250, it comes with a full gasket set and oil pump. I've also got a new distributor, plugs, and filters. I have torn into motors already out of a vehicle before but never pulled one out completely. Is there anything else I should absolutely be replacing even if there was no indication of faliure. I'm also doing this pretty much on my own so anything you guys can think might be usefull please let me know. Thanks!
I would also have your heads redone, valve seats and guides could cause you a bunch of problems, and its a lot easier to take them heavy heads off our engines and put them back on when the engine isn't in that truck. Mine ran me 600 bucks to have done. My bad thought that said short block....
I did a long block 460 a few months ago. I replaced the stock intake and rebuilt the carb, replaced ALL hoses, hose clamps and thermostat in addition to what you are doing. Also flush the radiator.
East to swap IF you have an 'FE' enging already - or you will need to swap the bellhousing. I've got a tired 360 that needs rebuild and a 390 "donor". I'd like to keep the original 360 block ( matching #'s) and build it up to a 390+. If the 360 block is good, bore .030 / install 390 rotating assy and put in 360 pistons / add a mild cam / swp the 600 cfm carb for a bigger one. Don't need the Xtra power but it's nice to have. Also have a set of headers & glaspaks to go on it.
Yea I'm swapping from a 360 to a 390. throwin new headers on with flowmaster's new super 44's. Already have edelbrock intake with holly 4bb carb. Thanks
