bad evolution?

I have an '06 4x4 5.4l scab lariat 40K, no mods except for flowmaster muff, got the evo 3 weeks ago run level 3, now idle jumps from 550 to 650 back to 550 etc. and always throws me into 5th, it wants me to travel 50mph at 1100rpm, I have to downshift by o/d button, bad evo?

Throws you into 5th What? Gear? If that's the case I think I found your problem...you ain't got a 5th gear! Actually sounds like a flow problem or bad gas. Have you replaced your fuel and air filters recently?

Return your truck to stock tune and run the online update through the Edge software. I had some interesting issues with mine when it was new. The fine folks over at Edge said my trucks PCM looked like an '07 rather than an '06 (I bought her as a leftover in '07...so there may have been something about the late production '06s that aren't like early production '06s) so they had to do some trickery to keep me out of failsafe.

5th, 4th, 220, 221 whatever(mr mom), no mthe guys at edge are great but they had me reprogram the unit 3 times last friday and still having problems, they want me to have the dealership flash the pcm, will have it done thursday, then get with them for another 2hr phone call, fuel not an issue, nor either filter, could I have just gotten a bad one, still don't understand how this unit can work for both my truck and a truck very different from mine

.357 .358, whatever it takes...I'm with ya, great flick.

Actually, its tuned specifically for our F150 PCMs. Some folks have found out the hard way not to hook it up to other 5.4L Fords (Expeditions, F-250's...). I'm surprised they're having trouble, they're usually spot on. So it runs perfectly fine in stock mode?

What octane are you running in level 3? Make sure they reconfirm your gearing and tire size. I noticed my unit always defaults to 3.73 gears and smaller tires. If I change it to 3.55's and 20" rims (the ones I have), it tends to dog.

yea that what I mean, the default is 3.73 and 17" but I have 3.55 and 18" but they say that doesnt matter because it learns what the original pcm tells it and the pcm tells it 3.55 and 18 or 20 in your case, on the last reprogram last friday I noticed at the end of the reprogram the fusion screen read expedition, almost as if the other 2 programs didn't work that morning my rep from edge just put me into a exp. program that he knew would at least get me past the "error" code that kept popping up during the previous 2 hrs and 357, 358 wasn't it 22, 23 whatever it takes, you may be right

I think it was .38, .39...whatever it took...

Actually my evo says 3.73 and a tire with a circumference of around 2300. My actual gears are 3.55 and tires of 2546 (using evos calculation). When I've changed those settings to reflect my actual gears and tire size I tend to get some hesitation. I seem to remember reading here that 3.55 gears with a 20" rim/tire will net a 3.73 ratio...I could be wrong, I'm not very edumacated in gearing.

Anyone else with the Edge notice it reporting different gear or tire settings than you actually have?

I think the 5th gear you are talking about is the torgue converter lockup in 3rd and 4 the gear.

Just to close the loop on this thread. I started having some failsafe issues with my edge this morning so I email the fellers over there at Edge Performance and as usual they got right back to me and told me told me some F-150's with CAI were experiencing the same problem. They uploaded a special tune to my Fusion profile and had me run the update again. Hopefully, it takes care of the failsafe issue.

I asked them about the gear and tire circumference numbers and they told me that these are not read from the PCM and must be updated by the user to the correct values by the user every time a custom tune is selected.
