emissions hose routing

I have a '77 ford f250 4x4 w/351m & manual trans.
I have searched all over for the vacuum hose routing and original hardware. Two libraries and 1 ford dealership were no help. I believe all the parts are on the engine, but some bonehead didn't hook up the hoses after installing new intake gaskets. Any help is much appreciated.

Is it a 49-state vehicle or a CA-only vehicle? Look at its DSO if your truck still had the warranty plate below the driver's door striker. Also, look for its GVW. Is it over or under 6000 GVW?

I am assuming a Ca only, from decoding the VIN F26HRY*****, it was built in San Jose. The DSO on the door tag is: 1977 72. The GVW is 6,700.

DSO 72 = San Jose, CA (Nor Cal area). Yep, it's a CA model.

In my 1977 book, all 4x4s calibration codes were left blank for some reason.

What does it have? A catalytic converter? Unleaded gas only?

Here's to hoping...does the truck still has its calibration label? If so, how legible is it? It can be found on either valve cover.

Looks something like this.

The truck has aftermarket exhaust so there is no cat, the filler necks have no restrictors so it is not an unleaded only vehicle.

There is no trace of a calibration label.

I did stop at a smog station today and they referenced their book of what to look for on the visual inspection. They said, although not guaranteed, that if there are no fuel restrictors it probably wouldn't have a cat either.

I never would have thought that something that is so important would be so difficult to get info for. Gotta love CA!!!!

I'm a newb so bare with me. You'll need the original thermostatic air cleaner, PCV valve, there are a few small hoses that run from the air cleaner to a little recirculator thing(mine was near my battery, passenger side) I think its 6 degrees advance on the timing, definately the Cat, EGR valve, and an oil breather with hose that recirculates up into the thermostatic air cleaner. If you are near north san diego county go see Bob at Bob's Carbs in Oceanside.

Not all F-series sold new in CA were the same.

Does the fuel gauge say "UNLEADED FUEL ONLY" or is it blank? Assuming the cluster is original to begin with...1977 was a tough year. Most 1978/79 CA trucks had the same full evap/cat setup so it was easier.

Yes, gotta love CA!

The gauge does not say unleaded only.

You are right about not all CA trucks were the same, the Catalytic converter and the filler neck restrictors were only used on "some models". as far as the PCV, air cleaner, EGR, etc. those all are included for sure on CA vehicles according to the smog shop.

Then it's likely it was originally came without one. CA models still had the evaporation emissions system. Federal models do not. Is the charcoal canister intact and hooked up? It's a simple system.

ALL 1973/79 trucks had EGR and PCV. I know PCV is emissions, but it does so much to help the engine.

One thing you may do to see how long the hose, this may get you into the proximity. Don't confuse the vacuum hoses with the evap hoses. One evap hose goes on the front of the carb, one on the EGR spacer below the carburetor, and another one goes to a steel line that runs all the way to the gas tank.

The charcoal canister is on and is hooked up correctly.
The only thing left I think is just the vacuum hose routing.

Good.

The distributor advance may either go to a manifold source, or it will teed to a PVS found on the thermostat housing. The EGR may go straight to the back of the carburetor or it will be hooked up to the same PVS switch, or to an EGR amplifier.

See if you can find a good smog shop with info...1977 is still required for testing. Someone should have something.
