Thumbs up LED Interior Lighting

Just want to report my satisfaction with LED replacement lamps that I installed in the overhead lighting in our travel trailer. These plug directly into the common 1156 incandescent sockets that are common in a lot of RV's. They obviously draw less current, judging from the voltage meter. The light is a bright white, not the soft yellow you get with the incan, so that takes a little getting used to. But it is a pleasant light and fine for reading.

I installed 10, which didn't quite fill out the coach, but I have them in the high useage areas, and in the less used areas I put an LED in the first half of the fixture, and left an incan in the second half. They are pricey, so I don't think I will add any more.

If you want to maximize your battery life while boondocking, I recommend these.

I got them on Ebay:

Do they just 'plug in' to the existing sockets? What was this circuit board they were showing?

There is a plug that fits the standard socket, but instead of a glass bulb there are two wires coming out and going to the circuit board. The circuit board has all the LED's mounted to it. The board is about 1.5" square and 1/4" thick. All the LED's point straight down. I just double sided taped them to the light fixture to keep them from bouncing around. They don't get hot at all, so they won't melt the diffuser if they lay on it. In fact, I can see some of them came loose from the DS tape and are just laying in there. I don't think it mattered at all. A glob of silicone might work better than the tape to secure them.

They look sorta like this:

And here is an article about them:

$100 for 10 lamps. Haha, I'm not that spendish. They sell them individually too at about $10 each so you could try one first if you wanted.

It appears they sell 10 units for $99.00, or 1 unit for $10.99, plus shipping. I'm thinking hard about this. That's a lot of clams, but if they're brighter, it sure would be nice. And I'm planning on living in my camper for 2 months or so this summer.

This is the sellers e-bay store.

David, I'm not sure they are brighter. Don't want to mislead you. I would say they are as bright as the incandescent. But it's a different color light, and that makes it hard to compare. I think the only reason to do this is to save battery power. If you plan to live in the coach then I assume you will have shore power. It probably would not be worthwhile. Definitely just try one first to see if you prefer the white light color.
