replacing tow mirror

anyone know anywhere where i could buy just the replacement glass and backing for a driver side upper glass tow mirror? its an electric mirror with no light on the side. i called ford any they also said i would need new pins to hold it in place but they dont sell them. any help would be nice, really hoping i dont have to replace the entire mirror.

thanks, Dan Taylor

Dan...go to a glass shop and ask for a estimate. They'll look at the mirror and let you know what they'd charge to replace it. Second option is to hit a body shop.

I don't understand the "pins". Are you talking about replacing the WHOLE UNIT or just the mirror glass part?

i dont have the plastic backing that the glass goes onto. i went to a glass repair shop and they said they couldnt do it because i didnt have plastic backing part. i wasnt with the truck when i saw it broke so i dont even know what it really looks like or how the backing is held into the mirror.

Hmmm....if it were me, the next stop would be a body shop.

I know I have a spare PASSENGER SIDE mirror in my shed that's missing the glass mirror part...but I've never paid any attention to it.

Dan, if it were me, I'd stop by one and ask....they may be able to do it cheaper....AND if they do it, it'll be done right since they have all the tools to do the job. It won't cost you anything to ask. You might get away with making a phone call and asking over the phone...but my experience says that they usually want to see the vehicle before they quote you a price for anything.

Just my opinion Pal. In my case, I happen to have a Pal who has his own body shop so it's easy for me.
