Headlights surging ?

I've searched around some and will continue to search, but.. My headlights and actually all the dashlights surge. This happens at idle or going down the road. The alternator was just rebuilt about a year ago. Any thoughts? The voltage gauge in the dash seems to stay at a constant 14v. Do I have something that's about to go out?

Thanks

Craig

If they brighten upon acceleration that that would lead me to beleive that the VR in the alt is not working properly. I would start by checking all of your connection both pos and neg, grounds to the frame and block and even the cables first.

But if they are pulsing at idle.. or while you are on cruise.. you have most certainly a Voltage regulator problem..

If that thing is any kind of accurate, then he may have a bad connection or short in the lighting circuit, most likely a ground somewhere. A good way to check this is with a good meter connected to the battery to see if that fluctuates when the lights do. I hate electrical gremlins. Good luck.

Thanks all. I've checked the cables already, but I'll double check those again and see if the voltage fluctuates at the batteries with the lights.
