I have a 79 F250 with a Dana 44. What is the stock gear? I'm running on 38.5" Swamper TSL/SX. What gear should I get and should i go with a locker? Any help would be appreciated.
The gears are not the same in all trucks. They have different sizes. Put a chalk mark on the driveshaft, and lift the tires off the ground. Lock the hubs. Turn the tire, and count how many times the line goes around, that will point you in the right direction. If it's say, 4.10s, it'll turn 4 times to 1 tire rotation.
Primary rig is Green Thunder:
95' F-150 XLT 4x4, 302, 5 spd, MSD 6A, Flowmaster American Thunder Exhaust, Sunroof, Clear corners w/ Diamond headlights, CD player with 2 10" subs and some 32" BFG Muds .
That's it for mods now, saving for a Stang. Check out my Gallery for a look-see.
if you are using 38" super swampers i would think about regearing to a 4:56 gear ratio. but keep in mind that you will also have to change out the rear with the front. and lockers are always nice additions while you have the gears out and apart.
