I have a '95 F250, 460 4x4 super cab 5-speed w/80000 miles.
On the same day a few weeks ago it began to stall out at start up,
the speedo needle starting jumping back and forth, and it bucked at
high speed (70 mph) and while going up hill.
I changed the speed sensor, plugs, distributor cap and fuel filter
and nothing helped although I'm getting 15 mpg now.
It still stalls in 1st whether its cold or warm. It bucks anytime over 65 mph and when going up hill. And the speedo is still crazy.
The only code I get is 332 (insufficient erg flow).
Visited with my mechanic this morning and he removed the cat converter.
It did not help. The DPFE would make sense for all the symptoms but if it's not there it can't be the problem.
Tomorrow I'll change the H2o and ECT sensors and will let you know the results.
I changed the oxygen sensor and the egr sensor with no change. Now I'm leaning toward the egr valve. What do you think?
Just make you a block off out of thin sheet metal and bolt the egr valve back on for a test. If you stll have the problem the it was not the egr valve.
I'm not quite sure I understand what you mean to "make a block out of sheet metal". Thanks in advance for the suggestion.
Take the EGR valve off and take the gasket and draw around it and the two bolt holes. Do not draw the exhaust holes. Cut this out with tin snips and cut out (drill ?) the bolt holes.
Put this between the intake and the EGR valve and bolt it down.
Drive that way for a while and see if there is any difference.
I just removed the ERG valve and blocked the port with a piece if 28 gauge metal and went for a drive. Sorry to say there was no change except for the check engine light which stayed on until I replaced the valve.
I'm not quite sure what to do next but think I will try to find an auto electric shop to go over connections etc.
One other thing though, when they removed the cat converter the pipe that went from the ERG valve to the cat now ends without any connection to the exhaust. There isn't any noticeable difference, maybe a little more pep, so I guess it's not a problem or a situation that would lead to a problem.
New development. I had a mechanic down in the borderlands look at the truck and he found that it runs very well if the speed sensor is disconnected or if the speedometer is disconnected. I've been going like that for about 6 weeks and everything is fine except no speedo.
