Fuel pump help

My fuel pump is beginning to fail and I have been looking for a replacement and have found a wide array of pricing. I have the intank fuel pump and one gas tank. What brand or where has anyone had good luck with a replacement??

Did my brother in laws on a 2001 V10 about 3 months ago. He bought his from NAPA. No problems yet, pretty staight forward job. Remove bed bolts disconnect filler neck, check for anything else tied to the frame and bed, lift the front of the bed (2 people to lift and 1 to insert supports) high enough to work on the top of the tank place some supports between the bed and frame. You need a couple different size fuel line tools to release the fuel lines, they are usually just plastic pieces that slip over the fuel lines and release the springs inside the couplers. Couple of hours if you stay away from the beer. Don,t forget to put the gasket on the top of the tank, we did his twice because of that, second time only took an hour.

Did this job recently on a van. We dropped the tank (4x4 van, lots of clearance).

Ford price was $415. Kinda had to do that because second pump (dealer replaced) started failing at 4,000 miles.

fuel pump

I believe my fuel pump died last night, are there tests to verify it is not electronics or other causes before dropping the tank?

I have 92K is that about when these pumps start to die?
THanks

u can test the fuel pump, by disconecting the lines by the fuel filter and try starting the engine..

watch for fuel pumping out of the line.. if nothing comes out u know the pump has either failed or it aint getting power..

obviously u wanna try to catch the fuel, u dont want it spraying everywhere..

The other thing to do is have someone try to start the truck and then you need to listen in the gas fill tube to try and hear for the pump. If you don't hear anythiong crawl underneath the gas tank when someone else is turning it over and bang like heck on the tank. Sometimes it will trigger the pump to start again. If it starts when you are banging on it, you know the pump is beginning to fail. That's what I did for mine. I haven't had a problem since I got it to start this way but I am putting a new one in ASAP. I can't afford to get stuck in the back woods or when hauling the TT.

There is a schriader valve on the fuel rail, push it in to relieve the pressure if there is any, then try to start the truck again check for pressure again if no pressure there, it's either bad or not getting power. See my post above it is easier to remove the bed than drop the tank. At least one person to help lift and about 2 hours your done.
