i have a 95 f150 4x4 it has a 302 and a aode tranny plaining on changing out to a 5 speed. i have one out of a 90 f250 4x4 that was on a 351w.
should i use a master cylender for the 95 truck or will it have to be one that was for the f250? and will i need a different cross member?
If you can get the master and line etc from the '90, that would be the way to go. You may need a new cross, more likely you just have to move it and modify it a bit. Don't forget driveshaft changes if the TC has to move.
As for your "AODE", those were not installed in trucks. It is probably a 4R70W. If it is as big as a house, it is a E4OD.
The mounting points for the master cylinder changed in 92 or 93, so the 90 master cylinder will not work. The master cylinder bore size also changed somewhere around the same time (93 or 94). You should be able to get master cylinder and slave cylinder for a 95 truck with a ZF and be just fine. I think there was one year that used the same bore size master cylinder as the 90 with the new mounting hole pattern if you want to re-use the 90 slave cylinder. However, since you will have the transmission out, it would be a good idea to replace the slave while you have easy access.
thanks for the help i am new to the site going to start on the truck tommarow but on the side of the auto tranny in it it says aod-e/w so will a 95 slave will work on the 90 tranny alright?
Ford/ZF also switched to the S5-42 in 94 or 95, so I'm not sure if that had anything to do with the change in the master/slave cylinders or not. You might want to compare part numbers and pictures of master and slave cylinders between 92 and 95 to be sure. As far as I know, the mounting points did not change between 92 and 96/97HD, which would mean you could use a 92 master and slave on your 95 with a 90 transmission.
Yes, that should read that the S5-47 began around 94 or 95. The S5-42 was available from 87/88-up to when they switched to the -47. Thanks for the catch!
