I have 300 in F150 I like but for highway it awful it doesn't like 3,000 rpm it sound like SCREAM diesel so that why I want try V8. I could get good mpg if it was empty and under 60 mph is good.
I know it stupid but 302 is rebuilt already so I would like use until it died or truck rot.

Your 300-6 shouldn't wouldn't be turning as high as 3,000RPM on the highway, unless you either don't have an overdrive tranny, or you do have a rear axle ratio that is very low, or you're going really fast--LOL. I have a 300 six with a 3.55 rear, with the M5OD, and it goes down the road comfortably, turning 2,200-2,500. (Sorry, I can't remember exactly, but I drive it at about 65-70mph, typically).
See what axle ratio is on the tag on your F-150. Maybe the cheapest thing would be to swap the rear axle in your F-150 to a higher ratio, so the 300-6 can easily lope down the highway all day, as it is so willing to do, with the proper gear ratio.
Good luck with your decision.

that does NOT sound right. i have a 76 f100 with 3.55s and 31x10.50s and it turns about 2700 rpms at 75, and yes it has a four speed. its a built 302 so its not even in its power band there. three grand with 3.55s and 31x10.50s... im not buyin it. theres somethin thats been changed there for sure. in low range 4wd my truck runs 50 mph at 3500.
