I am going to swap an aod into my f100 with a 302 and just have some questions: what does an aod look like? does it have an L-like shaped pan? what will i have to do for a flexplate with the different balances? can i use the one from my c6? will i possible be able to use my existing starter? if not, what starter will i have to use? thank you

Same picture here too man, going for the 302/AOD combo into my 54 F100 but want to know what do I need to make sure that the non-fi beast can handle the 302 with no problems. I dont want any computer anything. Is there a kit to bypass all that crap or what???
The AOD was a non electronic transmission that used a TV cable/rod to control the shifts. they can be installed without any electronics and if are built right can maintain some 500-600 hp engines for quite a while.
i just removed the c6? out of my 81 f150 2wd 302 and put in an aod for a 89 f150 to compensate the switch from 2.75 to 3.90 gears. the aod is 3 inches shorter than the tranny i pulled out. a different z bar(bellcrank) needs to be used from a newer truck withan aod to keep your prndlr indicator reading right. to hook up the tv linkage to the carb use a tv cable and holder off of a fuel injected 5.0 or 5.8l truck. i hooked the end of the linkage with a tie strap to the throttle cable at the carb where it clips on to the carb( i have a holley 4bbl of a late 70s 460) then build a bracket to hold the cable and bolt it to the intake manifold. after it is hooked up set the tv pressure with a gauge and use the fuel injected pressure specs. i didn't change flywheels or the crossmember. i then used a chevy 2wd 88 305 auto driveshaft and conversion ujoints
Ok, as I remember it, you need an '89-'92 AOD, 91-92 truck MUCH preferred(wide ratio gears). 14 bolts on the pan. Need to shorten drive shaft. Must run a 50 oz. damper and a 50oz. 164 tooth flywheel. No computer controls. TV cable from Lokar. Carb either a early 80's 2 barrel or an edelbrock 1405/6 or a holley with a tang on the throttle shaft extending straight down with a hole 1 1/8" off center of shaft. I haven't dealt with starter yet. Transgo shift kit looks good. Got one on Ebay for $40 the other day. 3.90 gears with stock tires will cruise at 2400rpm at 72 mph. good luck!
I have the Lokar 23" AOD shifter (comes with neutral safety switch), AOD kickdown cable kit, the thottle kit, springs and bracket for all of it to work. You mean to tell me that there is no other parts needed for the neutral switch and lookup???
