I have an '02 Ranger 4x4 with a 4.10 regular axle. I occassionally like to go offroading, and would like to at least have a limited slip rear end. I have never done any work on a differential before, and was wondering if I would need to replace the whole thing with a LS, or if I could modify the current axle myself? If I can upgrade to LS, what parts would I need, how difficult is it to do, and what kind of cost am I looking at? Any comments, suggestions, and help in this area would be appreciated.
You can get an LS but you'll have to have someone install it for you. If you've never been taught how to do it, don't even think about it. It's very difficult and you need special tools. Installation i'd say around 500 maybe? Depends on your area. The LS you can buy new from an aftermarket company or try to find a ford LS used. I got one for my 95 F-150 for $50 bucks on ebay, but thats a steal.
Primary rig is Green Thunder:
95' F-150 XLT 4x4, 302, 5 spd, MSD 6A, Flowmaster Exhaust, Sunroof, Clear corners w/ Diamond headlights, CD player with 2 10" subs and some 32" BFG Muds .
Thats it for now, saving for a stang. Check out my Gallery for a look-see.
