99 Ranger XLT - Electrical Issue?
- My battery will not hold a charge. I can jumpstart the truck and even let it run for a while. It will start again after an hour or so, but the next day it will not.
- The power windows are not rolling down
- The inside dome light will not turn on
The radio works, lights, turn signals, all work correctly. The radio has been replaced, it is not the factory radio. I have a new vehicle from my work so the truck sits quite a while between usage, and I have not been dilligent about starting and running the truck on a normal basis. I did find a fuse that seemed to control all these functions, but the fuse appeared to be fine. Any other ideas would be a great help...
Could be number of things, from a battery with a shorted cell, to leaky alternator diodes, to excessive parasitic drain from something remaining on, like a glove box light, or aftermarket equipt, to something not going to sleep like it should, like a computer, or theft system.
Why not consider running this puppy by your favorite autoparts store for a no cost, in vehicle electrical system check up, via their portable system tester.
It can properly load test things like the battery & alternator & check the battery cables connections for high resistance voltage drop & check the system for excessive parasitic drain.
By then you should have a good idea of your vehicles electrical systems health.
Let us know what you find.
