My truck is approaching a 100,000 miles soon, and i know some repairs are in place. I am going to change the oil (change it every 3000), differential fluid, transmision fluid, and maybe the serpentine belt.
I figure this truck is worth keeping and the 5.0 runs beautifully with no oil burning. I just want to know what else should I do to keep up with maintence to keep this truck running?
this is my list for when my motor hits 80,000 im gonna do it 20k miles ahead of time just to make sure it aint to late i only have 5k more to go. (will be mileage on items at time of replacement)
1. Plugs, plug wires, distributor cap, coil. (80k)
2. Fuel filter if not done before, fuel pressure checks. possible fuel line replacement (302k miles)
3. Starter silenoid (80k)
4. transmission fluid and filter (80k)
5. rear differential fluid(302k)
6. Heater core check replaced by PO last winter though.
7. fuel tanks dropped and cleaned possibly new rear if cant reseal it. has slight leak. (302k)
8. battery cables replaced.(302k)
9. maybe a treat for mine and many peoples eyes.. a complete paint job and re-chroming to make it the ultimate head turner.
air filter, pcv valve. i usually go over my front end and suspension once a year to check for any problems.
oh yeah forgot to say pcv valve and front suspension. get it aligned stuff like to make sure aint alot of where and tear since it'll have over 300k miles on the suspension but only 80k on motor and tranny.
Run some Seafoam through that intake if you haven't already.. There's good instructional vids on youtube... It's gooodd sh**!!! I'd say try to clean out your fuel injectors too if ya know how.
Get underneath with a grease gun and grease every joint that has a nipple. U-joints/tie-rods.
Flush your radiator/cooling system to get any deposits or rust outta there.
And get rid of that old clogged up Cat converter, either get a highflow or straight pipe it.
-Pack front wheel bearings.
-EVERY fluid if not done recently
-all of the above...although I don't really believe in replacing perfectly good parts if they're not broke or worn out.
ditto for the front suspension, especially the lower ball joints if you haven't already replaced them. What year is your truck??
look at your rear leaf spring mounts too. these almost always when they get some age on them.
