Brake system.

Hey All,
I just bought a '78 F250 Custom with a 5.8L. The pedal is soft so I have to pump the pedal to stop completely. Is this possibly the brake booster or is it just that the system needs to be bled? I used to be work on cars at a shop so I have dealt with this before with other cars and it was just because there was a lot of air in the lines and/or the master. I know the truck needs a lot of work which is why I bought it. I just don't want to spend $100+ on a reman. booster if I don't need to. Also any common gripes with the truck that you know of would be great to pass on to me. I have gone from racing cars to custom mini-trucks to this beast so I don't know too much about older trucks. -Thanks Guys

Well it is NOT the booster. It does sound like air in the system but before you bleed it make sure the brakes are fully adjusted up.
One other point you have posted on the wrong page, this page is for `87-`96 trucks but there are some great truck experts here as well.
You wiii be glad you found this forum, it is the best there is.
Good luck with your new truck.

Not just a bleed, but a full bleed/fluid change is cheep to to, it will take the fluid out of the equation. When bleeding monitor for any leaking or weeping seals.

Start at the wheel farthest from the master cylinder (rt rear) and work to the closest (lt front).
