I'm looking at two similar but different trucks and trying to decide which one I want. Need some opinions.
1st. 2002 F350 4x4 7.3, auto, x-cab long box. Has only 75k but starting to show rust on the box and bottom of doors. Runs and drives great. MN truck
2nd. 2006 F250 4x4 6.0 auto, x-cab long box. 104k, no rust but dirty as hell,(former road construction truck) runs and drive great. Nebraska truck
So They're roughly the same price, neither need any mechanical work (now), but each have their problems. The 06 is a smooth ride, but the 02 feels a bit more stout. The 06 has no rust. Which one would you buy and why.
I'd take the 06. By 2006, the bugs had been worked out of the 6.0l engine. The rust issue would be a concern as well. And, a good detailing can take the 06 to like new for very little money.
1. Improved front suspension (coil springs, tighter turning radius).
2. Better brakes.
3. Dana 60 front axle.
4. Torqshift transmission.
5. No rust.
6. Lot's of aftermarket goodies.
7. 7 years left on warranty.
Wow, that's kinda tough. The 7.3 is one of those legendary motors, the 6.0 is new enough to be a good one. I'd have to agree with Furian for the same reasons. Warranty does have a question mark though.
Is the '06 a fleet construction truck? Or is it a private seller who does construction? I would think if it were like a city government truck it would have lots of idle time. If it's just a guy who worked as a general contractor or something it was just a mobile office and/or a hauler for material and stuff.
I sort a like the 7.3, with those miles its just getting broken in. Could you put a new box on to deal with the rust problem? The 06 is new and rides better, but probably has a lot of idle time, erg valve problems??? I had a 02 350 that I put a mild lift on, rode and looked great. I now have an 05 350, deffinetly rides better but if you are into modifing your truck, do your home work on the 6.0. Both are great trucks, I think I would lean towards the 7.3, just my opinion. Low miles and able to modify it.
I would lean towards the 7.3, I wonder why. . We had lots of fleet truck where I worked. Always a different driver, and the guys drove the heck out of them because it wasn't their truck. Do and oassis on both and see how that comes out. Good luck.
I'm only guessing that the 06 was a road construction truck. It was a fleet leased truck up to 96k. It's so damn dusty inside I can only imagine it was for some type of road construction. I also don't think it sat idle to long since they put around 40-50 thousand miles on it a year.
I did an Oasis on it and the current owner has a fairly detailed Carfax. I can't say that for the 02. I hate Ford rust. It seems some have it worse then others.
Would $15k be too much for either of these trucks?

It is for the 7.3, You should get it for a lot lower, these truck are not bringing the price they used to. Sounds to much for either. I would look around some more, there are some good deals out there, just need to take your time.
Both trucks are XLT's, with about the same options. Power everywhere.
I don't know maybe every thing around here is way overpriced. I'm seeing super duty's with over 200k for 9-10 grand.
That damn Kelly Blue Book has everyone thinking their trucks are gold.
Should I low ball them? What should they be priced at?
