5R110W tranny pan updates

Well I got the parts together for the ’08 tranny pan swap tackling the task this evening. I’m really glad to have found the drained fluid just as clean looking as the new fluid out the bottle. I didn’t find anything in the bottom of the pan that would have caused me great concern. The most shocking part was the plug magnet that has collected 104K miles of fine metal particles. I cleaned the magnet off and installed it on the new ’08 pan. I took the time to replace the smaller in-line by-pass filter in the front of the truck. After a short test ride to confirm no leaks or drivability concerns I’m glad she’s ready for another 100K plus of smooth shifting and hard pulling.

Nice. What does the pan look like? And how much did the fluid cost you?

Dude - really. After 104k miles that's like nothing but normal wear. No worries.

I tell ya, non-engineers think that machines never wear or breakdown....but that's life.

Yer all good.

Rock on.

That is a cool idea. I have the same questions that riggz asked. Do you have pics of the pan next to the old one?

X2... I want to use the newer pan filter in my 2005 F350 but also want to do the Mag-Hytec pan. Mag-Hytec makes two pans for the Torqshift transmission... which one should I use?

There is definitely a difference in the Mag-Hytec pans... there must also be a difference in the OEM pans.

2003-2007 pan (Mag-Hytec Part # F5R110) Note: Only the bottom fin is shorter than the rest. Also, the fins end approximately 1.5" from the edge of the pan (left side of pic).

2008-2009 pan (Mag-Hytec Part # F5R110W) Note: The bottom two fins are shorter than the rest. The fins appear to end at the edge of the pan (approximately 1.5" longer than the pan above).

Good to see that the Mag-Hytec pan is "Made in the USA" after seeing all the made in Mexico ford stuff.

Heavy posted on another forum and said the pans are pretty close to the same. The 2008 is a little deeper.

Yea visually next to each other the OEM pans aren't that different. Since the new in-pan filter is taller the pan is a tad deeper. The case of Mercon SP cost me $50, this whole upgrade cost me $150+ the in-line filter. I'm glad to know that the magnet is doing it's job and now I'm ready for another 100K+.

Probably better off buying it at the dealer as most places won't ship oils due to Hazardous Materials fees.

You can get it at diesel filters online (www.dieselfiltersonline.com). I was able to get it for less than what the dealer wanted.
