OK, have had my 07 F-250 since Sept 06 and have never had battery problems until I took it into the body shop to have some minor cosmetic surgery. When I got it back from them, I have now had three instances of my battery(ies) being drained to the point where I can't start the truck. All three times were when I either left flashers on for 1-2 hours, and then twice while installing XM radio. Shouldn't these batteries be longer lasting, or am I just at the life end of both of them? I have 53K miles, but going on three years. Anybody else have battery issues? The batteries are Motorcraft stock batteries. Thanks!
It's also possible that they need to be fully charged and the alternator isn't getting them there. The alt can try and recharge drained batteries but there is the law of diminishing returns and your not going to get a full charge using discharged batteries to make the field. I ran into this AGM batteries and a "smart battery charger", I only brought me up so far, but the batteries need another couple of volts to be fully charged.
I bought a new crown vic in 03' and only got 3 years out of the battery.
my o8' super duty's battery seems a little weak on cold winter days,
kinda like the crown vic battery was. also both 650 cca.
i put a 875 diehard in the vic, turns over like crazy on the real cold winter days, will do the same on the super duty before next winter.
Leaving the flashers on for 2 hours will run batteries down a good bit. I laugh when I see cars on the side of the highway with the flashers barely flickering. People forget that flashers will drain the battery just like leaving the headlights on.
Have your alternator tested along with both batteries. Like 12ozd said, replace both of them at the same time or you will be playing the swap game as a dead battery will kill a good battery in no time.
Funny how a name brand will get in the way. I too have diffrent "name brands " that I wont touch or will love.
as of about 10 yrs ago there were 3 battery manafuctures making them all. dont know if it's still true. may be more these days.
I have started going with wal-mart batterys. the largest one I can get my hands on.
the reason is because every where I go. there is a walmart. and they stand behind there sales. I had to return one in my life time.
and YES there all made at the same place.
