I took advantage of a rainy day & installed my wicked wheel today. I followed the instructions from black cloud diesel for installation without turbo removal & it wasn't to bad. Overall, i'd say it took me 2 hours total. The worst part was as everyone had said, working on top of the engine. I found something that made it a little more bearable. We had a few "egg crate" foam pads used to lay on when camping in a tent. I double them up & they worked pretty good. The biggest problem I had was that when I was breaking the V clamp between the turbo & the down pipe loose, the "t" bolt fell out & went down behind the engine.. that took FOREVER to find. I have to admit, I was kinda worried about sticking a screwdriver in the exhaust side of the turbo & wrenching on it to get the old wheel off... but all turned out ok.
When I was done, I went for a short ride on some roads close to home & in the few times I could get on it, my boost went up to 20 - 21 lbs & NO surge, so it appears to have corrected my problem. Unfortunately, the install also made me feel like I just played a game of tackle football. Definitely not the most comfortable place to work....
Good deal on the install Gregg, I was shakey with sticking that long screwdriver in there to break free the stock wheel but it all turned out good. Take a few tylenol's or shots of your favorite beverages and congrats yourself...Nice whistle too right when you get on it??
Gregg, Be sure to report back after you have towed with the WW. I am thinking of this mod myself, just want confirmation that it's worth the aches and pains..
Thanks guys... The whistle is awesome.. too bad its pouring here today or i'd be going to work with all my windows down. I think I watched the youtube video twice in the past couple days. he made it look so simple. I was kinda impressed everything went so smooth, especially since installing my DP Tuner turned into a 3 day "why won't my truck start" affair...lol
Duane, I'm not sure if i'll be towing any time soon but i'll be sure to report back my findings. We are going to the OBX in June & I only have 2 weekends off between now & then and a mile long "to do" list..lol We'd like to get out for memorial day, but time will tell. I know I can hardly wait to sit around the campfire & throw back a few cold ones...

My thoughts as well. I want to install one but wonder if it will help with towing especially at the altitudes that I'm at. 5700' at home to over 10,000' mountain passes at times.

I just installed my WW about 2 weeks ago and towed a 9500lb 5th wheel this past weekend. WOW, no surge, great whistle, and lower exhaust temps! I started an elevation of about 5500ft and went to 8000ft. After towing many times without a WW I know there is a HUGE difference! Even my wife said so. Wish I hadn't waited so long to get one! It was backordered for a while though.

Why are these WW's so hard to come by? Where did you fellas get yours? What is the going price? How long on back order?
You can get them from many of the sponsors on here. Price is usually 70-100 bucks. The one time I was seriously about to get one it was on B/O almost a month.
Glad I didnt buy one. A gracious member is giving me his soon!

I checked with Clay recently & he couldn't get me one. They are hard to come by I guess. I didn't want to deal worry about surge issues on our upcoming trip so I had to search around. I found one @ dieselsite.com & had it at my door 3 days later. The lady there told me they order them 500 at a time. She also told me they sell really fast.! I think my total with shipping was $82
