Anyone know how hard it would be to change out the lower ball joints. Its a 2004 250 Fx4. if anyone has any info on this can you please pass it on also it any pics and tools, or should I just take it in to repair shop.
i did my left upper and lowers and it wasnt that bad at all. the only thing is that if you have the auto hubs that are vacuum operated you'll need to buy the inner hubseal installer. it's a 2 piece seal that requires it to be installed on the axle shaft and hub when your'e putting the hub back on.i made one out of some old seal arbors i had. you can get them from otc for around 75 bucks.other than that it's a piece of cake.now my right side is starting to squeek. time to do those too i guess.if your'e in the tacoma area i'll let you use my installer.
Can that seal be taken to a local garage or auto store with parts in hand to be installed? Is that the dust/grease seal with a lip and about 3" accross?
On the second or third page of RacerGuy's balljoint replacement guide that saltydecks gave you, is a homemade seal installation tool ... made of $10 of pipe from the hardware store. Made of a piece of pipe, a cap, and a flange. Here is a picture ...
I, and many others here, have used this tool with much success. One person here did say the tool may of failed him, but he believes he may of started with the seal cocked.
