My 2001 EB AWD has developed a 50-55mph wobble that has stumped my tire guy. Bal + Alg checked twice. Smooth through other speeds. 98K is the babied mileage. Any ideas? Thought I would search the net first and found this forum. Great to be on the board and thanks for the space!
Can you give more details regarding the wobble? Like do any noises come with it, does the steering wheel shake, is it more of a vibration, or a bounce, etc.
Be glad to. The Steering Wheel shakes left to right. It will calm down before and after 50-55. I do not feel it in my feet or my back, just the wheel. There is no noise that I can tell. It's like a Steering control shock/dampener is worn out, but I don't know if I have one. The Tires Plus I've been dealing with for years has checked their work 2 times and they can't spot the problem.
My first quess would be tires, but I am sure you have checked them out already. I had a similar problem with my Jeep and it ended up being worn drag link and track bar. Neither of which you have, or at least not in the same way. When you say they have checked their work, what work did they do. It is possible that you do have a worn front end part that can be causing this. Does it do it fast or slow when the steering wheel goes back and forth?
The steering motion is rapid. They put on OEM Wrangler last year without event. Balance, alingment and rotation had now affect to fix. Ford could telll me the problem, but funds are super tight.I
No fix a flat or repairs other than the attempts to remedy the problem. This is my third set of OEM product and the first issue. I have not got a second opinon from another tire shop. The fac that even after rotation the problem is still present I I pretty much ruled out the tires. Do we have a stabilizer on the 4X4 EB? I thank all the members that have given their input......
