I have an 04 exc. turbo deisel 4x4 and need help deciphering a problem. If anyone has any insight on this, I appreciate it. Lately, after a complete stop, when I start to give it gas, it has been bogging out and losing power and it gives off a black puff of smoke then all the sudden power kicks in and it takes off. We serviced it recently and changed the transmission filter underneath, cleaned the K&N air filter, changed oil and filter and it still has the problem. We refilled gas at a different gas station twice to rule out water in the gas as well. Any ideas on what else it could be? thx.
The EGR valve is likely the problem. You can try cleaning it but for the trouble I would just replace it. The valve has a 30lb spring that has a life span and sometimes even after cleaning the problem resurfaces. On another note the K&N is not a very good choice on a turbo charged diesel engine, the stock is a much better choice. https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/4...egr-valve.html Have a look in the 6.0 forum at the Tech folder it is loaded with info about your motor. https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/3...ch-folder.html
Horse mamma, like the others have said, lots and lots of good info in the 6.0L forum that will help you with that troublesome engine.
