Discontinued model

In the long term, does it make sense to purchase a discontinued model vehicle? We're still looking for a new(er) vehicle. I have an '08 Taurus-X home on tryout now but after reading here, it looks like Ford has stopped making them. I'm concerned about parts costs down the road. Do you folks have any input there? Thanks.

I dont on the model itself but the odds are though that car will share alot of parts with other vehicles. You can get a cross reference guide (or interchange manual) and look up the part you need on your car and it will tell you which parts on other years/models are the same and interchange.

The Taurus X and the Freestyle are practically the same car. They've been around long enough and they share enough components with other Fords that you shouldn't have any isses. Unless of course you plan to keep it for 20 years. If your getting a great deal than puller the trigger man!

The only time this would be an issue would be with very special edition models and they cost a lot to begin with so expensive parts aren't going to be an issue to those buyers. The manufacturers are required to have parts for quite a few years and then third parties always jump in to make money after that. I'd bet you would be surprised if you saw how many different cars and trucks share parts with that Taurus X anyway, the more Ford can modularize the more money they make.
