I'm not 100% on the 1987, but on the 89 I had and the 93 I do have, it's inside the cab, under the dash, driver's side, behind the emergency brake. The harness connector is under the hood at the firewall. You have to remove the harness, then remove the mounting screws for it and it pulls out through the firewall. When I swapped mine, it was a pain in the a$$. I had to fight the wire bundle, and pull down the plastic wheel well cover.
