before i replace my bearings

I would like to know any pitfalls or particulars about changing out the bearings on a 95 f150 4x4.

i can buy and inner and outer plus seal at napa for around $60. but do i need to "pack" them?

what is packing them... just greasing? or something more?

what sort of timeline should i be prepared for? and or checking myself against...

thanks alot guys

Packing them is just putting grease through the bearing and usually you need a bearing packer. Some already come greased but most likely you will need to pack the bearings.

Replace the 'races' with the new bearings, which calls for taking a blunt drift punch and a hammer and carefully and evenly tap the old races out of the front and rear of the hub. Then, clean the hub and Carefully tap the new races back in. (You will know when the races bottom out by the sound and feel of the hammer/punch.) You 'pack' the bearings by either a tool from the parts store, or just fill your hand with grease, and work the grease in all the cavities of the bearings. Let us know how it goes.

Buy a bearing packer at the parts store, they are super cheap, I got mine for about $5. Before I got it last summer, I had always packed bearings by hand. I never had a problem with bearings I packed by hand, but doing it by hand sucks. You get greasy as hell and it takes about 4 times as long as using the packer. Its money well spent.
