Before...at the dealer without spray in bedliner (and probably empty tank) it's got a pretty good rake to it
Before....after spray in liner
After leveling kit installed
Before the kit, it measured 39 3/4 rear and 37 front from ground to top of wheel wells. Now it's dead level, close to 39 3/4 all around. At first I thought even the 2" AS looked like too much, but now I think it looks good. Glad I didn't go 2 1/2 or 3"!
Also in the last picture you can see the effect on the CV axles and tie rod. It's not pretty, but I did a lot of searching here beforehand and most everyone said the leveling kit hasn't caused any failures. I hope that's true cause I plan on keepin' it a long time.
Looks good. I had the same concern with the severe angle it causes. I ended up talking to the owner of Hell Bent Steel, and he told me that once you get to the 3" and over spacer kits is when you start having problems. According to him, The California boys like running the front ends high like the rally trucks; Guess its the hot thing out there.
btw, that angle doesn't mean squat. Your front axle doesn't turn unless you are in 4x4...so unless you are driving miles and miles in 4x4 mode...it isn't even a concern IMO
I was told that the angle will significantly put a strain on ball joints and cause them to wear prematurely. Just curious, if this is not true, someone explain how it doesent affect the ball joint angle?
magnet: how long have you had yours leveled? any problems? I wouldn't think ball joints would care about angle, it either fits or doesn't and rotates on a ball. I'm not going to worry about it, but I'd be interested to see what others have to say.
Good point tylus, I'm not going to worry about CV joints either. I replaced CV axles on a contour after 190K and I think the only reason they went was torn boots.
Yeah definitely new tires, exhaust, ride-rite airbags or AAL or a 3" block for the rear, splash guards......it never ends does it?
I have had my 2.5" leveling/lift kit installed now for about 6 months and so far no problem. Like i said before, The owner of Hell Bent Steel said 3" seems to be the magic number of when you start having problems with ball joint stress; Thats why I did a 2.5" kit. There maybe nothing to it, but I usually take the advice of the guys making the kits and see the results on a daily basis.
