Been under the truck billions of times now to find what the heck keeps sounding like a vibration or exhaust coming out a hole in the system. well didnt find any hole, all shields are tight and dont move, could my converter be broken? Is it really going to cost a couple hundred bucks for one?
It is not unheard of for the catalyst "honeycomb" to be broken, but it is rather rare - and is usually accompanied by big dents in the casing...
And yes, a new one will be SEVERAL hundred dollars to get one large enough for this engine. If you don't use it for heavy towing or hauling, you could use a smaller universal aftermarket, some of which are around $100.
I would definitely pull it and inspect it before dropping the cash!
Those are not high flow cats for any application over 3.8L. You notice that have a maximum displacement rating of only 5.0L, and a max GVW rating of only 4,000 lbs.
To get more flow through a larger vehicle you need larger cats.
We also offer these same units in a true high flow 300 cpi ceramic for ever better results in our Tru-Performance line, as well as a Heavy Duty version of this same cat that can more easily handle the heavy towing. (PM for details)

This I did not realize. The link, however, served merely as an example of what I was speaking of, not of the proper cats of a Super Duty. Do you offer stainless steel cats?
