Once the weather got warm, I put my passenger window down, and started hearing an exhaust leak noise (Tapping) Pulled the manifold on the passenger side, and it had a small crack in the manifold. I installed a new gasket, and new OEM manifold from the Ford dealership. While engine is cold, runs quiet as a kitten...as soon as it gets warm, and goes under load...can still hear a slight tap...removed gasket, and tried a different style of manifold gasket...still have the slight tap. No lifters are sticking and oil looks clean, no engine leaks...what else could it be? Any help would be greatly appreciated!! 1997 F150 with 4.6L V8.
Ok I thought I had a slight manifold leak in my truck, thought no biggy wait till the summer to do gaskets and possibly shortys.
well the slight tapping that I heard got louder on my trip back to school and hour and two hours into my drive a spark plug popped out. It may be that, hope it isn't because it's a cheap fix unless they screw something up like they did in my case...check my posted threads about the blowout.
could also be lash adjusters which someone else told me about when i was trying to diagnose my tapping noise.
